My car had a lot of trouble starting this morning when it was -16 outside.
I am tired of winter already. All I want to do is curl up in bed, drink tea and hot chocolate and sleep... lots.
On the bright side, I am catching up on a lot of good books, like the Thursday Next series (finally) and Slammerkin and classics that normal people read in high school, but not in New Richmond. I started reading the Historian - not very far along but it comes highly recommended and I am really liking it so far. What's not to like about Vlad the Impaler?

I wish I still enjoyed reading... I read so many management reports and survey reports that really... I hate words.
Are we all reading the Historian, then?
what you are saying what we read at NR weren't classics? "Papa was a Farmer" Hello!?! I guess I didn't get to read anything since my I took AP English Language and you got to take Literature.
I have a theory about reading...in fact at first I thought I had an abnormally low reading level. One that would hamper me from understanding and enjoying books. But after calling my librarian sister and asking how reading levels were determined I discovered that my reading level is just fine. You see I can't get into some books (p.s. when I say books here, I mean non-fiction. I don't read fiction and when I do I rarely have a problem getting into it) I simply get bored and want to stop reading. But I treat reading books like my netflix movie list, I HAVE to finish so I can get to some other book.
After discussing this with Richie I think that it is really a matter of personality. You can't read something you aren't interested in. You can't read and enjoy something purely on the word that one of your friend's loved it. I think it also helps to have a reading nook. I have one I just never use it. I should begin to. I mean if Richie can read 10,000 pages of Tolkien middle earth history in 5 months I can read whatever. (long comment i know, but its a slow friday afternoon)
Kat, I think you'd balance out your problem with reading if you read some fun stuff that isnt for work. something campy.
i've spent the last year reading through classics and i think most of them are crap. and im a librarian. they're pretty much all classics just because someone at some point wanted to ban them, and that got people interested. no one read them after that, they just called them classic
on the upside the highschool reading list has really, really improved since we and various other left.
I don't understand why you dont want to read fiction, thomas. no offense but your books all look uber boring.
